Pricing and purchase
How much does PennyBolt cost? One price, paid once. See pennybolt.com/pricing for the current amount.
Is there a trial? Yes. You can use PennyBolt for free for a limited period before purchasing. The app tells you how much trial time remains.
What does “buy once, own forever” mean? You pay once and own that version. You’ll receive free updates for the life of the major version. You are never required to subscribe to keep using PennyBolt.
What’s your refund policy? Contact us within 30 days of purchase if PennyBolt doesn’t work for you. See Getting help for the support email.
Platform support
Which operating systems does PennyBolt support?
macOS 12 or later, Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), and mainstream Linux distributions via AppImage or .deb. Details at Install PennyBolt
.
Is there a mobile app? No. PennyBolt v1 is desktop-only.
Can I use PennyBolt offline? Yes. PennyBolt works entirely offline. The only network request it makes is an optional update check when you open it. See Privacy and security .
Features
Can PennyBolt connect directly to my bank? No. PennyBolt doesn’t connect to your bank automatically. You download a file from your bank’s website and import it. This is a deliberate choice — see What we do differently .
Does PennyBolt support multiple users or shared access? No. PennyBolt is a single-user app. One person, one file.
Can more than one person use the same file? Not simultaneously. You can copy the file to a shared location and take turns opening it, but PennyBolt doesn’t handle concurrent access or merge changes from two copies.
Does PennyBolt track investments? Not in v1. You can add brokerage accounts as asset accounts and update the value manually, but PennyBolt doesn’t import trade history or calculate portfolio performance.
Does PennyBolt have a budget feature? No, not in v1. Use the Sankey report and spending trends to understand where your money goes.
Does PennyBolt support auto bank sync? No. There are no plans to add bank sync that automatically pulls transactions. You always initiate the import yourself, from a file you downloaded. See What we do differently .
Does PennyBolt support multiple currencies? The app handles amounts in whatever currency your bank download provides, but v1 doesn’t do currency conversion. If all your accounts are in the same currency, you won’t notice any limitation.
Updates and versions
How often does PennyBolt update? There’s no fixed schedule. Bug fixes ship as needed. New features come in minor versions (v1.1, v1.2, and so on). Check pennybolt.com/releases or leave update checks on in Settings.
Do I have to update? No. Older versions continue to work. We recommend updating for security fixes. PennyBolt will tell you when one is available.
