PennyBolt Documentation
Install PennyBolt, import your history, and see your money clearly.
Welcome. These pages teach you how to use PennyBolt. They don’t sell anything — the website already convinced you. From here on, our only job is to help you get things done.
Start here
New to PennyBolt? Start with Your first ten minutes . You’ll install the app, add one account, import one file from your bank, and see your first spending chart — in about the time it takes to make coffee.
Switching from Quicken? You have company. Switching from Quicken is a full migration journey built for people carrying years of history. Start there and come back here when you’re done.
Something’s broken or confusing? Troubleshooting is organized symptom-first. Scan for what you’re seeing.
Find your way around
These docs are organized around what you’re trying to do, not around the app’s menus.
- Getting started — install PennyBolt, set up your file, see your first chart.
- Core concepts — shared vocabulary. What an account is, what a transaction is, what “the file” means in PennyBolt. Skim these once; return when a word is unfamiliar.
- Importing your data — every format we support (OFX/QFX, PDF, QIF, CSV), one page each.
- Switching from Quicken — the full migration journey, prep through first week.
- Using PennyBolt — the everyday work. Transactions, payee rules, reconciliation, reports.
- Your data — where your file lives, how to back it up, what leaves your computer (very little).
- Help — troubleshooting, frequently asked questions, and how to reach us.
- Release notes — what’s new, what’s changed, what’s fixed.
How to read these docs
Every page answers one question. The answer is in the first paragraph. The rest of the page is for when you need the details.
If a page claims something we no longer do, that’s a bug. Tell us and we’ll fix it.
